Get to Know the WTF Team: Tori Kravitz
In continuing our “Get to Know the WTF Team” series, today we are chatting with Tori Kravitz, Senior Publicity Manager for our rock, metal, and punk artists. She has been with WTF for a year and a half and has worked with dozens of our most memorable clients including Hoodie Allen, Emarosa, Kraken Music Fest, We’re Wolves, Loveless, and more. Learn more about Tori below!
1. How did you get involved with music publicity?
I was a massive fan of all kinds of music throughout high school so, in 2010, I started my own blog and YouTube channel called Rock Forever Magazine. Initially, I was interviewing smaller bands and posting music news but as I became more ambitious with the artists I interviewed, the site grew beyond my wildest dreams. 5 years, 300 interviews (including Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons, and Zendaya to name a few), and millions of views later - it became a full-blown publication. I went to college to study journalism and during my junior year, I landed a dream position working for the Vans Warped Tour as their “pit reporter.” I was on the entire tour for 4 years as their on-the-ground content creator for social media and I created daily videos for every single show, which included artist interviews and backstage footage. That led to opportunities with Monster Energy, AP Magazine, and currently Knotfest! Journalism and Publicity go hand-in-hand so working with WTF PR was a natural progression for me to create a sustainable career in the business.
2. What do you think makes your approach to PR unique and indispensable to the industry?
As someone who has been on the receiving end of thousands of pitches from other publicists, I know what grabs my attention and what goes straight into the trash. I know how I like to be treated as a journalist so I do my best to ensure that those expectations are met when I am speaking to others.
I also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Writing & Rhetoric. Both of those education focuses helped tremendously in my understanding of journalistic integrity, eye-catching stories, and compelling writing strategies. My favorite thing to do is find unique perspectives and experiences that my clients have had and turn them into features with the right publications.
3. What is your most noteworthy project or achievement to date?
My favorite project I’ve worked on was We’re Wolves’ print feature in Outburn Magazine’s October 2021 issue. The editor Jeremy Saffer entrusted me with the honor of writing their interview piece myself and it was exciting to finally tell the band’s story exactly how I hoped other journalists would. Their album “Evil Things” was a concept album inspired by Dante’s Inferno so I incorporated the nine circles of hell into the story of how the album was created.
4. What are your genres of music? Favorite artists?
My music taste is very difficult to pinpoint these days because I’ll listen from anything ranging from Dua Lipa to Limp Bizkit to lo-fi music while I work. Primarily my taste leans in the rock genre (which is unsurprising to my clients)! I love really moody, ambient metalgaze and doom metal like Alcest, Chelsea Wolfe (especially her Blood Moon album with Converge, which is a MUST), Emma Ruth Rundle, and Les Discrets. In the heavier metal world, Jinjer has been one of my favorite recent discoveries. However, my top two favorite bands are Alice In Chains and Placebo. I’m also a sucker for anything Lana Del Rey does. I think what matters most to me is feeling the heart and soul in the music. If I can resonate with it, I can love it.
5. If you could do PR for ANY artist ever, who would you choose and why?
If I could go back in time and do PR for letlive. before they disbanded, that would have been the dream so, in current times, I’d choose Fever 333. I have a letlive. tattoo on my leg and I will always love that band because of the soul and fiery passion that Jason brought to the project. Working with artists with a strong activism stance is a huge draw for me. Writers love people with compelling stories and that is what makes a campaign fun for me too. I always believed in letlive. and their lyrics, which casted a light on the racism, greed, and power imbalance that still lingers among us. They sang for freedom and equity. It would have been a passion project to help share their message with the world. Luckily Fever 333 is keeping the legacy alive, albeit, in a new way.
