Get to Know the Team: Jamie Perez

In continuing our “Get to Know the WTF Team” series, today we are chatting with our publicist Jamie Perez. Jamie is an integral part of our team as she works with our pop, alt, and indie artists. We asked Jamie a few questions to learn more about how she get involved in the music industry and her favorite tunes. Check it out below!

1. How did you get involved with music publicity?

I first began to be involved with music publicity through my internship with WTF, which later turned into a full-time job as a publicist. I had always had an interest in music and tried to involve myself in any way I could at the time - whether it was through joining "street teams" or fan update accounts for some of my favorite artists.

2. What do you think makes your approach to publicity unique and indispensable to the industry?

I think that being a fan first and foremost of the people you work with gives a deeper understanding of where they may fit best and what might work for them in terms of outlets or other opportunities. Fans and fan ideas can often be overlooked or even looked down upon in this industry despite them being a huge reason why artists get to do what they do. Looking at things from a fan standpoint while maintaining professionalism has helped me set a standard of knowing what it is fans want to see from their artists and being able to make those connections.

4. What is your most noteworthy project or achievement to date and why?

Since I've worked on many different projects and with many different artists during my time at WTF so far, I don't think there's a specific project or achievement that I could single out as the most noteworthy because I've enjoyed all of them. I will say I definitely love the tour press aspect, as it opens the space for more opportunities and it’s fun to find sessions for the artists to play. An achievement in the making for me that I do feel really proud of though is being able to maintain a good work life while being in school for my masters degree.

5. What are your genres of music? Favorite artists?

My favorite genres of music are indie, pop, and latin. I love that despite being different genres, there is always a sense of storytelling that you get from the songs in these genres. My favorites from these genres would have to be Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, and The Lumineers. While they all have different sounds, their music is always something that can draw me in and they all have songs that are perfect for any mood I'm in.

6. If you could do PR for ANY artist ever, who would you choose and why?

If I could do PR for any artist it would have to be Selena Gomez. I think paired with her beauty line, there is a great space for opportunity to create cross-promotion between the two while. She is an artist that has always been big about the support from her fans and what they mean to her so it would be fun to try and create ways for them to be included as well in some events for any future releases she has.
